viennacontemporary is pleased to announce Johanna Chromik as the new Artistic Director. Johanna Chromik has in-depth experience in the contemporary art gallery landscape, previously holding positions as the director at König Galerie and KOW, both in Berlin.

Born in Poland, she was raised in Germany, where she started her career in the art world at Galerie Eigen+Art, Leipzig/Berlin, moving further
to the US to work at Pace Gallery and advise international art collectors. Johanna Chromik will take over as Artistic Director of viennacontemporary as of January 15, 2019.

Dmitry Aksenov (Chairman of the Board viennacontemporary): “We are very happy to welcome Johanna as our new Artistic Director. Together with the existing team, she will continue the path we set foot on in 2012 to build a strong international art fair in the heart of Europe. Within the great context of Vienna’s rich cultural past and present, we feel confident that Johanna’s experience in the art business will stimulate our growth.”

Johanna Chromik: “I am excited to join viennacontemporary's team. Following the development of the fair with its unique profile and strong position in the city of Vienna for years, I very much look forward to working together with the Viennese galleries and institutions to further strengthen the international position of the fair and to contribute to the thriving Viennese/Austrian art scene.“

viennacontemporary's 2019 edition will take place from 26–29 September 2019 at Marx Halle in Vienna. In its latest edition, viennacontemporary once again demonstrated its outstanding position among the international art fairs. With 30,863 visitors at the vernissage and the following four days of the fair, viennacontemporary was able to surpass last year’s figures. In addition to the many local art enthusiasts, the fair for contemporary art enticed numerous international art collectors to visit the light-flooded booths of the 118 galleries and institutions from 27 countries at Marx Halle.
