In his first solo presentation at the multipleart space, Adam Thompson presents a new body of works created in the past 3 months.
Adam Thompson: Singles, Doubles, Multiples
April 17 – May 20, 2021
at multipleart, Zurich
This latest series of wall objects by Thompson is a continuation of his exploration of shape, texture and composition with materials strongly related to the practice of painting but displayed in single abstract components: form, colour and texture. These works originate in an intense process of sketching. "I compare my flow of lines and shapes with a musician who may have a flow of notes when composing a piece of music."
In contrast to many of Thompson's previous works, there are new pieces featuring two autonomous parts in conversation with one another. Colored, shaped canvases become an individual element interacting with the lacquered aluminium forms. A further development of the idea of separating the individual aspects of painting. "These works vary strongly in how they speak to the viewer. The forms take on personalities. Whereas some speak clearly and emphatic, others whisper with their subdued tones and delicate shapes."
Singles, Doubles, Multiples is simultaneously a reference to the different shapes in the show and also a play on the definition of a multiple. Some works include a single form whereas others are couples or even triples. Artists who exhibit at the multipleart space are asked to create a small edition which is included in the show.
