This project reflects the popular discourse wave about human-neural network interaction in art. While the fusion of AI with the creative sphere is framed by the rhetoric of progress, creative freedom, and new subjectivity, it is simultaneously embedded in the logic of patriarchal and corporate control, bearing the imprint of "dark enlightenment."
In contrast, contemporary art practices demonstrate an opposite movement, showcasing an interest in manual labor, craft techniques, and traditional and decorative arts. The project interprets this shift as a critique of accelerating technological progress and the romanticization of AI amidst tangible social breakdowns. The exhibition manifests a return to materiality and corporeality and "slow" forms of knowledge and creation.
The exhibition "She Told Me Herself" builds on the tension between two notions of progress. Images of the female body, which are simultaneously shackled and endowed with agency, serve as metaphors for the clash between two paradigms: alienating techno-optimism and a careful appeal to corporeal and artisanal experience, which shapes the notion of human-instrument interaction.
