From the heights of the Russian avant-garde to primitive shelving.

Arthur Golyakov: Billy
17-27 February , 2019
Lestnica Gallery, Krasnodar

The "Billy" (Ikea bookcase) project by Artur Golyakov is a reflection on the role of the artist in global historical processes, and more precisely on the dysfunction of this role. Avant-garde, Bauhaus, Billy are the vectors of moving from philosophical pathos to a prosaic cheap consumer product.
The project features several objects, and each of them symbolizes the structure of various artistic phenomena of the 20th century, such as black squares lying underfoot or "Dance and music" which refers to Matisse's canvases ... A shelf inserted into the structure of minimalism and which became an object of art, is getting a finale of pretentious ideas ..
